This article is to help with drawing out your work site after performing a search on the Location screen when submitting a ticket.
After entering your criteria on the Search step and tapping Search, a map will appear with a circular cursor indicating the found location. The next step is to indicate the work site on this map using the Polygon tool found in the top-right corner:
The full list of map tools include:
- Pan: Drag your finger across the map area to move around
- Zoom: Pinch-zoom in and out to resize your map view. Alternatively, the zoom level can be adjusted by tapping the + and - buttons on the last side of the screen.
- Ruler (Measurement): Tap the Ruler tool ( )to measure distances and bearings. with this tool selected, tap on the map to drop your starting location. Tapping again will generate a line showing how far those points are and the direction being travelled. To stop using the Ruler tool, tap the Exit Ruling button at the top of the screen.
- Push Pins: Tap the Push Pins tool ( ) to drop reference points or indicators on the map. Tapping on the map with this tool selected will drop a pin that can be used as a reference to help with drawing your polygon. To delete a pin, tap the Delete button at the top of the screen and then on the pin you wish to remove. Push pins cannot be used to map your work area, and are not visible once your request has been submitted.
- Polygon: Tap the Polygon tool ( ) to start indicating your work area on the map, e.g. properties, road corridors, etc. Once selected, tap once to drop your starting point, then tap on each corner of your work area as you trace around the site, then click Finish at the end to connect your first and last points. The area inside the polygon represents your work area. You can tap Delete last point to remove the last point placed if one has been placed in error or needs to be adjusted.
- Edit: Tap the Edit tool () if you would like to adjust your drawn map. Once selected, all placed points will become draggable, adjusting the polygon as you do so. Cancel can be tapped to revert to the un-edited polygon.
- Delete: Tap the Delete tool ( ) to remove your your polygon. With this tool selected, tap the polygon or tap the Clear all option to remove the polygon from the map.
- Map Layers: Select the Map Layer tool ( ) to view different base maps, including Hybrid and Satellite views. Make your selection by tapping the buttons next to each layer, and the map will reload to show the alternative imagery.
- Overlays - LLD Grid: Select LLD Grid to display the Legal Land Descriptions (Quarter Section - Section - Township - Range - Meridian) grid on top of the visible map
- Overlays - River Lots Grid (SK Only): Select River Lots Grid to display River Lots in Saskatchewan on top of the visible map
- Overlays - P&NG Grid (BC Only): Select P&NG Grid to display the Petroleum & Natural Gas (Unit - Block - Group - BCLP) grid on top of the visible map
- Overlays - City/Town Boundaries: Select City/Town Boundaries to display where the municipal civic limits exist; note that any Rural ticket that passes over a City/Town Boundary will have it's allowable mapped area changed to that of a Civic request
Tip: You can also delete an incorrect drawing by re-selecting the Polygon tool and beginning a new drawing. The old one will disappear automatically.
Along the bottom of the map, you will be able to see:
- XY Co-ordinates: Displays the location the map is currently zoomed to.
Please note that if your site exceeds the maximum dig size for that ticket type, you may need to switch ticket types. If you have exceeded the Large Project ticket size limit, the work will need to be broken down into smaller sections and multiple requests.
If you require a secondary mapping resource to help more precisely identify the area you wish to map, you can visit the AB/BC/MB Secondary Mapping Resource Links article here.
Tip: If the vertices (outer points) of your drawn polygon overlap (eg. the lines cross each other) your map will be rejected. This will also occur if your map is smaller or larger than the allowed affected map size based on your Ticket Type.
