This article is to help with performing a site search on the Location screen when requesting a ticket. There are five different options to perform a search:
- Street (Address)
- Intersection
- Grid (Legal Land Description)
- Coordinate Search (GPS)
- Current Location Search (accessed by tapping the
button)
Street (Address)
You can type the address or location reference details into the Street field:
Once the address has been entered, tap Next to load the map
If your address is not recognized (e.g. if in a new subdivision or rural area), try searching for just the street name, or an established nearby street to bring up a general area you can use as a starting point to then pan to your location. Additionally, switching to a satellite or hybrid map view can sometimes display more street layouts than the base maps for newer areas (please see our Drawing the dig site map article for more information). Alternatively, you could try one of our other search options below, or email our contact centre at info@beforeyourdigpartners.com for assistance.
Intersection
If the work location is not at a specific address, or the address does not exist yet, an intersection search can be done to pull up the general area / nearest intersection.
Rural intersections can be searched by entering the province they fall within instead of a Town/City, however, they cannot always be found depending on the area.
Once the intersection has been entered, tap Search to load the map.
Grid (Legal Land Description)
The Grid search option will allow you to enter a Legal Land Description to find your Rural site.
Enter your Grid information in the following format:
LLD Grid – SW-01-01-01-W4 / [Quartersection]-[Section]-[Township]-[Range]-[East/West Meridian]
-
- NOTE: Do not use an LSD instead of a Quarter Section; enter the Quarter that the LSD falls within instead, and enter the LSD in the Remarks field
Once the Legal Land Description has been entered, tap Search to load the map.
Coordinate Search (GPS)
Latitude & Longitude (Digital Degrees)
When selecting GPS coordinates as the search, the default search option is in Latitude/Longitude (WGS 84)
If you have UTM coordinates, tap the Use customer Projection/datum slider to access other GPS formats. Once selected, a dropdown menu will appear allowing you to select different formatting as well as the UTM zone.
Tip: Degree Coordinates (Degrees, Minutes and Seconds [e.g. 53°33’19.0”N 113°55’10.0”W]) will need to be converted in Google Maps or through another conversion tool before they can be entered. To do this:
- Enter the co-ordinates into the search bar in the format shown below, with a space dividing each degree/minute/second, and a comma (or a space) dividing the latitude and longitude:
- Press the search magnifying glass button or hit Enter on your keyboard. The map will load to the position, and below the search bar it will provide the equivalent decimal co-ordinates:
These co-ordinates can now be searched in BYDP. Please note the Projection/Datum will still be “Latitude/Longitude (WGS 84)”, or the default GPS search option.
Once the coordinates have been entered, tap Search to load the map.
Current Location Search
Utilizing the Current Location Search tool will allow you to use your phone's GPS locator to identify your current location (accurate to ~15 meters)
Tapping the Current Location Search button () will open this location on the Map.
NOTE: You may have to allow the website permission to access your GPS service when using this feature. Click "Allow" if this box appears:
