In early 2017, the western Canadian One Call Centres for British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba created a Business Rule Alignment Group (BRAG) to investigate the possibility of aligning business rules for using One Call services for all provinces. The group consisted of provincial industry representatives from locate contractors, CCGA regional partners, One Call centre operations and provincial Member Resource Committees.
In July 2017, BRAG achieved agreement on alignment of business rules and practices, and produced the document "Business Rules for the User of Western Canadian One Call Services". (attached). UPDATED to v1.2 in September 2018 and to v1.3 in June 2019.
The alignment of business rules allows for operational efficiency, reduction of errors, opportunities for economies of scale in advertising, awareness messaging, training and shared technology.
The result of the alignment was that BC, Alberta and Manitoba released a joint RFP to seek a single software solution to meet the requirements of a state-of-the-art, automated and integrated solution to the one call process.
In October 2017, Pelican Corp. was selected as the successful respondent.
In October 2019, the service agreement with Pelican Corp was amended to include Saskatchewan.
